Intimate Theatre Productions – SEASON ONE has come to a close!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, here is my closing night thank you speech, word for word as I had written it whilst on stage. (Including the parts that I accidentally skipped over in my hurried state!) – I decided to repost it on the site instead of writing a new one because the sentiments I wanted to express are exactly the same and there was no sense in a paraphrased version online.

Thank you very much for coming to see I Love You Because, and in doing so, deciding to become a part of Intimate Theatre Productions’ inaugural season. There are a few people I need to thank, for without them, this entire project would have not been even remotely possible.

First and foremost, I must thank my parents Alex and Angela. Without their love and support for the arts when I was younger, I would not have had the desire to pursue this dream I’ve had to perform.

Also, I thank all the people who’ve mentored me through this process which includes all the directors, choreographers and musical directors I’ve worked with over the last year and a half. But a special thank you to Shel Piercy, Shelley Stewart Hunt and Julie Tomaino who have coached me through the last 8 weeks of the project that culminated in what you saw the past three weeks.

And then there’s everyone who worked on the show itself: Kerry O’Donovan, our musical director and one man band on the keyboard. Francesca Albertazzi who designed the set. Don Parmon, Alex House and Omanie Elia who built and painted the set. Adam Volk for his lighting design. Christina Dao for her props. Cecilia Smith for her help with the accents. The Granville Island Cultural Society and their staff, but especially to Ryan our venue tech, and Sarah May, our main Front of House representative. All of our box office/bar/usher/load in & out volunteers. And the stage management team who keeps the show running like a well oiled machine: Malcolm Ross, Roger Smith in the booth and Emma Hale. This fabulous cast of ours that took words and notes from sheets of paper and brought forth the magic that you all were able to witness on stage. And of course, my right hand throughout this entire process, my associate producer Chris Adam, who with his Musical Theatre expertise was instrumental in me not losing my head!

And last, but not least: You, the audience. It is the support from each and every single of you that allows not only Intimate Theatre Productions, but all the small & new theatre companies out there to keep performing theatrical gems like I Love You Because in beautiful tiny spaces like Studio 1398 here on Granville Island.

Once again, Thank you all very much. Please keep up with us at http://www.IntimateTheatreProductions.com, please email us at IntimateTheatreProductions@gmail.com with all your comments & suggestions and please keep supporting live theatre.

Go and see a musical. Good Night!!!

That being said, keep tabs here at IntimateTheatreProductions.com for updates regarding an upcoming fundraiser, details on our show next season (which is going to be at Studio 1398 once again – February 6th-23rd, 2013) and other shows that our ITP Alumni are up to next!

See you all around soon!!!

I Love You Because is now completely SOLD OUT!!!

23 Thursday Feb 2012

I am completely floored at the response to this show, as well as for the tickets selling out so quickly! As a performer, there’s nothing better than performing to a sold out audience, and even more so when they’re all taking in and appreciating what we’re giving out. I’d like to thank every single one of you for coming out to see the show, and telling your friends to see the show, and then coming out again yourselves. Without your support and appreciation, shows and companies like ours will go unnoticed, and won’t have the ability to keep producing quality performance for all to see.

If you want, there may still be a chance to get in to see the show through the wait list. Sometimes, people who book tickets can’t come at the last minute, or they forget that they have tickets, and if you show up around 7:30pm, and ask to be added to the wait list, you might be able to pick up those tickets that never get picked up, so who knows?

But to those who already have tickets, we look forward to performing for you. To those who already saw the show and told friends, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To those who weren’t able to make it out for the first season, look for us next year at Studio 1398 again (and now you know to buy your tickets in advance! lol).

However, just because you didn’t get a chance to see our show this week, doesn’t mean that there isn’t quality theatre happening in Vancouver!!! Let me share with you the shows that are currently running in town!!!

At the PAL Theatre on Georgia & Cardero in the heart of the West End, Hey, Look! It’s A Co-op! presents The Marvelous Wonderettes. The Marvelous Wonderettes offers a trip down memory lane where the audience is transported back to Springfield High School’s 1958 Super Senior Prom. It is here we meet the Wonderettes; four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! Sporting memorable hairdos and personalities to match, the Wonderettes harmonize on 50’s and 60’s standards such as; “Mr. Sandman,” “Lollipop,” “It’s My Party” and over 20 other classic hits. So get hip to a whole new sound, put on your best threads and lose the squares. The Marvelous Wonderettes is sure to be a big bash!

It features four wonderful friends of Intimate Theatre Productions: Meghan Anderssen, Diana Kaarina, Lalainia Lindbjerg & Jennie Neuman – All four of which I’ve performed alongside of! (lucky me!) They run until this sunday night, and their tickets are available at Tickets Tonight.

At the Anza Club (3 W. 8th Avenue), Concrete Vertigo Productions presents The Lost Girls Of Neverland, a burlesque revue. After the success of 2010′s Ruby Red Burlesque, Cameron Fatkin has done it again, this time using Neverland as the backdrop. Set during Mardi Gras, this contemporary musical comedy is guided by modern pop music, dynamic dance numbers and fabulous costumes. The story follows the trials and tribulations of The Lost Girls, a dance troupe working at New Orleans’ hottest Gentlemen’s club, Neverland. The beautiful and innocent Wendy Darling is thrust into the spotlight encountering sex, love and the jealous and vain Tinkerbell. Meanwhile, across town at the Mermaid Lagoon, Madame Hook plots her revenge against her arch enemy Mistress Pan whom she has held a grudge against for years.

The show features more friends of ITP including: Sable Strub as
Wendy, Rosie Simon as Pan, Cesar Erba as Mistress Hook, Jacqueline Breakwell as Tink, as well as Allison Fligg, Mike Kovac, Ranae Miller, Erin Walker, Javia Selina & Nilsen Tiefenbach. Running until March 3rd, their tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets.

And then finally at Metro Theatre in South Vancouver, Fighting Chance Productions presents The Mystery of Edwin Drood. FCP describes it as a mixture of Charles Dickens and Choose Your Own Adventure. This wildly warm-hearted theatrical experience kicks off when the Music Hall Royale (a hilariously loony Victorian musical troupe) “puts on” its flamboyant rendition of an unfinished Dickens mystery. The story itself deals with John Jasper, a Jekyll-and-Hyde choirmaster who is quite madly in love with his music student, the fair Miss Rosa Bud. Now, Miss Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper’s nephew, young Edwin Drood. Our title character disappears mysteriously one stormy Christmas Eve-but has Edwin Drood been murdered? And if so, then whodunnit? The giddy playfullness of this play-within-a-play draws the audience toward one of DROOD’S most talked-about features, which allows the audience to vote on the solution as prelude to the most unusual and hilarious finale!

The Mystery of Edwin Drood is also packed with ITP friends, including Director Ryan Mooney, Musical Director Vashti Fairbairn, Choreographer Dawn Ewen, and cast members Alex McMorran, Jennifer Doan, Emma Rendell, Mike Wild, Linda Sum, James Walker & Gordon Bruce. Also running until March 3rd, their tickets are available at Tickets Tonight

And THAT’S what’s going on this week in the land of Vancouver Musical Theatre.

Jak Barradell
“Thank you [to] the whole cast and crew of I Love You Because for an amazing show last night! The second act damn near tore my heart out! I hope my antics were not too distracting for the rest of the audience and the actors. I get way too emotional about theatre! Victor Hunter, Sayer Roberts, Erin Palm, I was so proud of you all, It was a pleasure and a privilege to watch you. Harper Smith and Sheryl Anne McMillan, My hat is off to you as well. You were all truly magnificent!”

Andrea Loewen

“Just went to see Aaron’s show, I Love You Because. It was, simply put, the most enjoyable musical I have ever seen. I thought it was outstanding! So outstanding in fact, that I’m going to try to go see it again next week. If you miss this show, and you could have gone but didn’t, it will be a tragedy. Go get tickets. This second!”

Jonanthan Uy (Australian dancer just moved from Edinburgh
“I enjoyed the cast performances, their witty and funny dialogue, and the overall on-stage chemistry between the actors were all right up there. Some great sequences sprinkled with good tie-ins and social/cultural references.

And I’m a hopeless romantic at heart so I enjoyed the love story and as a dancer I appreciated the show’s musicality and dance choreography.

I’d recommend this for anyone to check this out!”

As the Managing Artistic Director of a brand new theatre company, a musical theatre company at that, I could not have asked for a better Opening Night than last night. A big, huge, GINORMOUS thank you to all those who made it out to be a part of a little piece of what I hope will become Vancouver’s musical theatre history.

Here’s proof and a reminder to myself that it actually happened!

ITP February 2012 - I Love You Because - ITP's Very First Audience!!!

I honestly could not have gotten this far without the help of anybody and everybody who had a hand in making this production the best that it could be. From my parents and my family for their support and love, to the mentorship I’ve received from Shel, Shelley and Roger, from my “support staff” of Malcolm, Emma, Francesca, Adam, to the phenomenal cast for putting on a damn great show. And finally, to you, the audience from last night, the audience in the near future and the audience for shows and productions to come. It is because of YOUR love of musical theatre that makes us want to perform for you every night, and on every possible stage. Please keep supporting not only ITP, but live theatre in general. Go see a show and marvel at how the performers on stage love what they do, and love sharing that passion with you.

I hope to see every single one of you website visitors at ITP’s I Love You Because this Valentine’s season. Counting down 10 shows left. Get your tickets here while you can and enjoy the magic of a live musical theatre performance!!!

from the bottom of my heart and soul,

Aaron

Thank you very much to everyone who came out!!!

We congratulate AVEY, the VALENTINE’S DAY CONTEST WINNER!!!

10 Friday Feb 2012

We the cast, would like to congratulate AVEY who sent us a very heartfelt story who we felt matched the story of the show!

Here’s what she sent us:

My boyfriend and I met at Theatre school. We rarely talked as we weren’t in the same year and didn’t see each other much. After a year and a half of schooling we ended up doing a show together (both cast as ensemble members).
When we started rehearsals in the spring we were partnered in one scene of the show, so we started talking more. The scene was partner dancing and standing around conversing. Every time we did the scene we got to know more and more about each other because we were just in the background having a quiet conversation or a giggle to each other. Little did we know we were actually falling in like with each other.
Rehearsals followed through to tech week. Now at this point we had had alot of quality time together in that one scene. We would frequently have the same opinion on things, and smirk at the same things. Opening night came and the show ran for a couple weekends. Totally sub consciously we had fallen further in like with each other. It was the first time in my life that I wasn’t aware that I was seriously interested in him, and he says the same thing!
Closing night came. While ‘chatting’ in the background we would get closer and closer every night as I would jokingly whisper ‘sweet nothings’ in his ear. On the final show, something came over me that made me kiss him in that moment. We knocked teeth because we were both smiling. The scene moved onto another part where we slow danced together. We were pretty darn quiet! The he said “I have something to tell you”.. and grabs my face and kisses me! It was the sweetest thing ever.
Everyone was surprised to see the two of us start dating as we seemed like a completely unlikely duo. In fact we seemed much of the opposite. That is it only seemed. Many people’s opinions were false. We fit so well together!
We fell in love and we’ve been together ever since. I couldn’t ask for a better partner in crime. He’s a rare breed and I am so thankful he picked me.
He’s the guy who gives me flowers just because. He brings out the positive in every situation. He isn’t afraid of being silly. He watches romantic comedies with me. He doesn’t care if my hair is in a mess or done up. He makes me laugh. He accepts my flaws and habits. Most of all he loves me for me. He loves me because.
Good luck with your show! I’m looking forward to seeing it!

It’s easy to see why she deserved to have a romantic and enjoyable evening with the cast of I Love You Because on Valentine’s Day!!!

IT’S OPENING NIGHT!!!

I can’t believe that time is finally here! Not only that, but opening night is SOLD OUT!!! So not only do we have a packed house, but I’m hoping we start a little tradition here in Vancouver. So I wish broken legs to all the actors and I hope this opening night audience enjoys the show as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together.

Now, people of Vancouver, don’t you fret! Just because opening night is sold out, you can still get your tickets at Brown Paper Tickets before the rest of them get sold out!!!

If you’re curious about what you’re getting into by coming to see this show, read these two great full page articles featuring our cast members from Buranby & New Westminster!
